John Syty was born in Clarence, New York on January 2, 1989.

John Syty lettered three times in football and was captain twice for Clarence High School. As a senior, John Syty made 90 tackles and five interceptions. John Syty earned first-team All-State, All-Western New York honors and was named the 2006 Class AA North Defensive MVP.

In 2007, John Syty became a 6’2” 200 lbs linebacker on the Buffalo Bulls football roster. John Syty was redshirted during his first Buffalo Bulls football season. During the next Buffalo Bulls football season John Syty became a starting outside linebacker.
