Anel Montanez was born in Trumbull, Connecticut on November 13, 1987.

As a senior on the Trumbull High School football team, Anel Montanez made 65 tackles, six sacks and caused a pair of fumbles. Anel Montanez led his team to a 10-2 record and conference title and also earned All-State honors.

In 2006, Anel Montanez was a freshman on the Buffalo Bulls football roster. Anel Montanez played in seven games during the Buffalo Bulls football season. Anel Montanez had a career high five tackles, four solos and a forced fumbles against Ohio at the University of Buffalo Stadium. The 5’11” 290 lbs defensive lineman was redshirted during the 2007 Buffalo Bulls football season.
